IUPUI curriculum details

  • Students will need a minimum of 62 credit hours at IUPUI to earn the BFA.
  • The Women in Art course will transfer either directly as Herron’s Women in Art course or as HER-H 203, a variable topics art history course at Herron, depending on IUPUI’s Policy regarding transfer equivalency between 200- and 300-level courses. If the course transfers as HER-H 203, students should not take HER-H 340 as an art history elective at Herron.
  • A portfolio is required for admission to Herron BFA degree programs. A mid-level portfolio review is required during the junior year. Senior thesis or capstone that includes exhibition is required in the senior year, typically within a studio course in the major area.
  • BFA requires 125 credits, of which 76 must be studio course credits, of which 30 must be in the major. Actual remaining requirements for studio electives and major studio courses will depend on the student’s choices of studio electives at Ivy Tech and whether those courses fall into the major or studio elective category for the student’s BFA major at Herron.
