Frequently Asked Questions-Passport

What is Passport?

Passport is a coordinated program between Ivy Tech Community College-Central Indiana and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Passport strives to increase course and degree articulations between institutions, maintains advising offices at both campuses, offers cooperative student services, facilitates shared access to student records, offers IUPUI Passport scholarships and promotes student life programs. The goal of the Passport office is to make the transfer of credit and/or degrees between the two institutions as seamless as possible.

How do I know if my credits will transfer?

Check the Passport website for course and degree articulations. Visit the Passport Advising Office at Ivy Tech located in the Student Services area and speak with an advisor or call 278-2630 and make an appointment. IUPUI students should check with their departmental advisor.

On the transfer list of courses what does #1XX or #2XX mean?

IUPUI will accept the course and give undistributed credit. Each department determines if or how this course will be used. DO NOT assume undistributed credit will automatically transfer to your degree.

I am an IUPUI student and I want to take a class at Ivy Tech. What do I do?

You will need to complete a Guest Student Application and meet with your academic advisor at IUPUI. You advisor will approve the course you want to take and that it transfers into your degree of study at IUPUI. .

Will my course automatically be transferred to my IUPUI transcript?

You must submit an official Ivy Tech transcript to IUPUI once all final grades have been posted. You must request an official transcript from the Office of the Registrar at the North Meridian or Lawrence campuses and either mail or hand deliver the official Ivy Tech transcript. You must earn a grade of "C" or better for IUPUI to consider transferring credit. Also, you may be assessed a nominal fee to request the transcript.

Will the grade I earn in my course at Ivy Tech transfer and affect my GPA at IUPUI?

The credits transfer but the grade does not.

If I failed a course at IUPUI can I repeat it at Ivy Tech or vice versa?

Yes, however in order to replace your original failing grade, you must follow the course repeat policy at your Institution.

Can I use my Financial Aid?

Refer to the Passport Consortium Agreement. Follow the instructions on the agreement and submit the completed form to the Financial Aid Office at your HOME institution.
